Discovery Through Writing
(4th – 5th grade)

Students learn about engaging topics such as the Bayeux Tapestry, tsunamis, and hobbies while developing key writing skills. They gather important facts from their source texts, organize those facts in an outline, and write clear summaries of both stories and informational texts. They also practice building vocabulary, writing from pictures and prompts, and creating multi‑paragraph reports. Lessons help students write stronger sentences, stay on topic, and gain confidence as writers.
Students receive individualized feedback on each writing assignment so they can improve the clarity, structure, and overall quality of their writing.

(5th – 6th grade)

Lessons help students write stronger paragraphs, express their ideas more fully, and write with greater independence.

From Ashurbanipal to Mayan chocolate, students explore ancient-world topics while building foundational analytical habits needed for more independent writing. They use information from source texts to support their ideas, organize their writing effectively, and create essays, literary critiques, narratives, and responses to prompts. Lessons help students produce writing with clearer reasoning, smoother flow, and growing confidence.

They write essays, narratives, and literary critiques that require them to support their ideas with evidence and thoughtful explanation.
